RE: Other great music | from bkahunaFeb 25 2003 - 07:44

Back to music, all time great bands - swervedriver, dinosaur jr., husker du, superchunk, creeper lagoon's "I become small and go", MBV, At The Drive In
and then, slowing it down a notch,
Richard Buckner, Magnetic Fields
and dominating both genres, IDAHO.

RE: Other great music | from go!Feb 14 2003 - 01:18

Put jean-Claude to Irak!

RE: Other great music | from RossFeb 13 2003 - 12:14

Let's not forget a little gem called "Legionnaire."

And of course Double Impact, where Jean Claude plays twins seperated at birth because of some kind of Honk Kong Crime Syndicate intreague with their dad. One brother (Chad) moves to L.A. (which begs the question as to why he still has a francophone accent) and the other ends up on the tough streets of Hong Kong and is a smuggler of questionable repute. Double the "Van Dammage" and about 6 references to silk underwear throughout the movie.

There's nothing funnier in this world than listening to JCVD wrestle with the words 'silk' and 'underwear'.

RE: Other great music | from Jean-ClaudeFeb 13 2003 - 09:57

Segal I think maybe you forgetting about a little flick I did called "Bloodsport", oh yes I am the greatest

RE: Other great music | from dolphFeb 13 2003 - 05:24

I saw a review of your new one, 'Should Have Retired'.

RE: Other great music | from Steven SegalFeb 12 2003 - 21:02

Jean-Claude, Dolph..... Neither of you can even come close to my devastating abilities in acting, let alone my deadly, macho, and totally brutal discipline of Aikido. now tuck your tail between your legs and go rent "Hard to Kill" or any other of my three-word titled movies.

thank you.

S.S.

RE: Other great music | from edFeb 12 2003 - 11:50

Although you are forgetting that ska developed from Polka!

Anyway, I wish to Jeff and John good luck for the recording of the next album and I hope that it will be Idaho's "Spirit of Eden" masterpiece.

RE: Other great music | from DeanFeb 10 2003 - 07:04

Dammit!!

Back in the studio you two!!

Stop fannying about!

RE: Other great music | from JBFeb 10 2003 - 02:33

Pipe down captain Fudgy! (AKA Jeff Martin)You know as well as I do that we are waiting on our "web-u-tante" to come and do some work for us near-do-well's. 1st week of March we should have some sound samples of tracks on SELECTED artists on Retrophonic. Hopefully we can figure out how to ship affordably to our friends in Europe
and Canada. I tried to get ONEIDA for Retrophonic through Secretly Canadian, but they didn't respond to my numerous inquiries....Until then,If anyone out there Likes music like CLUSTER, or NEW Brian Eno (the ones you can't buy in the stores, but only through EnoWeb, You will LOVE: K. Leimer.
Enough said.

RE: Other great music | from canuckFeb 08 2003 - 18:47

Looks great, lot’s of really good stuff, but what are those of us outside the states supposed to do?

I offer secretly Canadian (www.secretlycanadian.com) as an example of a good label/mail order service: a decent selection of artists, prompt service, and most full length cds are $12 with no additional postage required in the u.s., and only $1 per order (not even per item!) extra to ship to the great white north, and $5 for airmail overseas. Could use more mp3's though...

(man, they should pay me a commission!)

RE: Other great music | from jeffFeb 07 2003 - 09:10

yeah goat, who's gonna by something they cant hear?..get some god damned mp3's up once

RE: Other great music | from cFeb 07 2003 - 07:41

i see that the black watch will be available soon through retrophonic... IMHO they're only the most overlooked band on earth

RE: Other great music | from scoobidooFeb 06 2003 - 01:11

John, the other problem is that many of your fans, like me, come from Europe, and it is still not possible to buy something on retrophonic outside the States.

Hope that it will change.

Peace on earth

RE: Other great music | from tkFeb 05 2003 - 19:39

Tommy Keene.

RE: Other great music | from micahFeb 05 2003 - 17:36

a few of the bands have one mp3 available....any chance you could offer some 30 second sound samples of the songs by these groups or something? give us a taste of the sound?

RE: Other great music | from micahFeb 05 2003 - 17:26

i had some interest in some of the bands on retrophonic, but they didn't seem to be available outside of retrophonic, and there were very few or zero sound samples available when i looked...i need to hear something to know if i'm going to like it or not.

RE: Other great music | from S&MFeb 05 2003 - 14:12

RE: Other great music | from JBFeb 05 2003 - 03:45

I put some of my favorite music on retrophonic.com for all y'all to check out. Please listen to some of the MP3's...K. Leimer, Brian Straw, John Gold, Christ! Windsor for the fucking derby. I can't believe some of these artists have ZERO sales.... c'mon now...Guitar Fucker is great for pissing off your girlfriend! Don't some of you have girlfriends? Oh, sorry I asked..
I may have a slightly vested interest in some of these artists, but I also truely believe in these artists, so much so that we developed a platform to make them available..and more are coming...Don't just sit there and watch as indie music circles the drain..For the LOVE of Coldplay !!?!?!
SUPPORT RETROPHONIC!

RE: Other great music | from JanFeb 04 2003 - 12:47

mars volta and atdi are great, sparta is cheap emo-core, mind me saying that!!Great bands are ::::
Low

and some dirty rock Ikara Colt
.............

RE: Other great music | from bkahunaFeb 03 2003 - 21:09

Maybe not the perfect site for this question, but from an Idaho fan who also got hooked on At The Drive-In, Sparta or Mars Volta?

RE: Other great music | from EdFeb 02 2003 - 18:45

Anyone heard of Tristeza? They're a great instrumental band from San Diego I believe. A solo project from one of the members is called The Album Leaf. Check it out.

RE: Other great music | from jamesJan 27 2003 - 22:12

chokebore is great too!!...have you heard them? they will blow your minds out of your skeleton

RE: Other great music | from bkahunaJan 27 2003 - 19:28

Bright Eyes/Conor Oberst. Why all the hoopla?

Sparklehorse | from scoobidooJan 27 2003 - 09:32

Good morning Spider is, in my opinion, one of the 5 best album of the nineties. This is an oasis of beautiful and intimate songs. The distorded Ghost EP is brilliant too. But I don't like the last album. Production by Dave Friedmann is ok, the songs aren't strong. Anyway, Mark Linkous is a genius and I hope the next album will great. Any other opinion about It's a Wonderful Life?

RE: Other great music | from DeanusJan 27 2003 - 01:32

Abyone else think Mark linkhouse = ever diminishing returns?? I loved that first LP.

RE: Other great music | from Alex N.Jan 26 2003 - 21:47

Sparklehorse is some pretty creative, out-there stuff... very interesting. I'm not a big fan of Josh Rouse, though. I bought "Under Cold Blue Stars" (Amazon.com recommended it), but I really can't stand listening to it. The chord progressions and stuff are too simple and boring for my taste. I'm going to sell it soon.

RE: Other great music | from micahJan 26 2003 - 13:44

sparklehorse, swervedriver, and MBV, and probably josh rouse too, but i know for sure the first three have many fans on this board.

New Music | from bkahuna Jan 25 2003 - 21:30

I only recently "found" Idaho - one month ago I had never heard of them, now have 5 discs and listen to them constantly. Haven't seen anyone talking about Sparklehorse. Doves are a good band - but in my opinion, no where near Sparklehorse, Swervedriver, MBV or even Josh Rouse.
