regime change starts at home
regime change starts at home
I'm not really dead and I love children, perhaps I should be in charge of our great country, the USA.
music lyrics are about the things we deal with on a daily basis mostly, so obviously most songs are going to be about the good and bad of our everday lives. some bands of course are more concerned with a larger view of the world. it's all about what's important to the artist. would there be more songs about war if we were in the midst of one on our own soil? yes. because it wouldn't be something in a far away place that we aren't concerned about, it would be real, tangible, right in front of us and all around us.
Personally, I don't like party politics in music. It sits better in books, films, documentaries and discussion. I think it's quite hard to be succinct and get a point across fully in a few verses and I like the medium to be filled with love and lust and hope and despair and not the mess we are making of the world. political songs can come across as horribly preachy and oft condescending because of their condensed nature and the rousing affect of music itself.
There are exceptions of course ( before you all beat me with your revolutionary songbooks!! )
Thanks for saving this thread Jeremy after a few idiotic posts in the middle.
Dilemma for anyone unhappy with government action is what one can do in between one's four-year voting right. Write letters to your govt. or to the media? Peaceful demonstrations? That's about it. And with the huge sway of power and control held by the President, protest is a little like pissing into the wind. Still, what's the alternative, right? Since this is a music list, how 'bout some thoughts about when, where, or whether, music & poliics should intersect? Is it ostrich-like for our artists to write only about love, personal identity, etc. as seriously bad shit happens around the world. If the war happened on our own soil, eg. events like 9/11, would there be more musical preoccupation with it?
You know what? Bush is the reincarnation of John Wayne. but the fact is that we are in the real world.
haven't other presidents thrown your hard earned cash down the toilet as well? do you want me to show you some wasteful government spending in past administrations? i didn't vote for bush, nor am i a fan of his. however, i don't entirely understand the "i'm scared" sentiments...i'm just guessing that a lot of your fears are things that have existed for years, through many administrations, but you're just now aware of them. i'm not trying to start a political debate or anything, but i found this topic bizarre.
Call my opinion flimsy if you want, but Bush is a fucking lousy President and I don't have to support him (that's the beauty of this country)...he is throwing my hard earned cash down the toilet and throwing the environment with it. I wish we could vote to throw the asshole out of office....
He aint the president of my country, but to me he lookes like an actor, always having some sort of smile on his face whilst saying some very serious things
Long live Belguim ?!
You don't think I've been trying? It's no picnic, believe me.
I personally do not see how stoning our president with our flimsy opinions does us any good, he is our president and leader like it or not. I am not the most excited person on the block either but all I can say is he is our president and we should be on our knees praying that Gods hand be with him and that our Father God will give him Wisdom.
don't be a son of a bush
Don't be a son of a Bush
Absolutely horrified. Thanks for the song Deanus...
Well said Deanus...very clever. BUSH SUCKS!!!
Michael Moore for president!
Michael Moore's big all over.
Is Michael Moore big in the US???
like i said before, the reason we know they have weapons of mass destruction is because we sold them to Saddam... we just got our accountant (Arthur Anderson???) to look up the relevant invoices...
To the tune of "If you're happy and you know it, clap your
hands"...
If you cannot find Osama, bomb Iraq.
If the markets are a drama, bomb Iraq.
If the terrorists are frisky,
Pakistan is looking shifty,
North Korea is too risky,
Bomb Iraq.
If we have no allies with us, bomb Iraq.
If we think someone has dissed us, bomb Iraq.
So to hell with the inspections,
Let's look tough for the elections,
Close your mind and take directions,
Bomb Iraq.
It's "pre-emptive non-aggression", bomb Iraq.
Let's prevent this mass destruction, bomb Iraq.
They've got weapons we can't see,
And that's good enough for me,
'Cos it's all the proof I need,
Bomb Iraq.
If you never were elected, bomb Iraq.
If your mood is quite dejected, bomb Iraq.
If you think Saddam's gone mad,
With the weapons that he had,
(And he tried to kill your dad),
Bomb Iraq
If your corporate fraud is growin', bomb Iraq.
If your ties to it are showin', bomb Iraq.
If your politics are sleazy,
And hiding that ain't easy,
And your manhood's getting queasy,
Bomb Iraq.
Fall in line and follow orders, bomb Iraq.
For our might knows not our borders, bomb Iraq.
Disagree? We'll call it treason,
Let's make war not love this season,
Even if we have no reason,
Bomb Iraq.
when I read the subject, I was afraid this was going to be about the band Bush...thank god!
Not anything to do with IDAHO, but since there has been lack of discussion for a few days....anyone else disgusted with this idiotic little midget who is "running" our country...I'm scared.
