Nothing Like Idaho in the Morning | from Seth HowardJan 03 2001 - 10:18

Here's an excerpt from the e-mail playlist I get from KCMU's morning show here in Seattle (and online at www.kcmu.org).

-------------------------------
Albums/Songs of the week:
Hi:Fidelity Lounge Volume Two: Licensed to Chill (Guidance)
Jon Hyde "Yellow Light" (Racket Music)
Idaho "Hearts of Palm" (Idaho Music)
-------------------------------

John Richards - the morning DJ has really been pushing "Hearts of Palm" a lot, and he's a pretty influential fellow in our little town. He has a great show if you ever get a chance to check it out.

Yes. The Sam Prekop solo record is pretty amazing stuff. Check the new Tylenol commercial for one of Sam's instrumental numbers. I love the last Sea and Cake album ("The Fawn") too. "Oui" just really sounds dull. It seems like John M. has been hanging out with Stereolab too much.

The S + C play tonight here in Seattle (the same night Versus is in town - bummer!). I'm looking forward to seeing them. Ok. I'm way off topic now.

Viva Idaho! Viva "Hearts of Palm"!
There. That's better.

hey mr. seth howard, have you heard sam prekop's solo album? it is incredible...

RE: heard hearts of palm | from Jason EisertOct 27 2000 - 20:55

jeff, dan and all others involved...hearts of palm is a fucking masterpiece! excuse my french. thank you for creating such wonderful music. i had the honour of hearing happy times on your split 7" with cobolt and evolution is cold on the popvolume1 comp. before the hearts of palm release. i feel so priveleged. i wish i could get a hold of the floundering sndtrk and the buzz comp. that is all i need to say that i have every work of art that ya'll have produced. thanks again.

RE: heard hearts of palm | from Jeff B. Oct 27 2000 - 20:19

I think that "To Be the One" might just be the most beautiful song I've ever heard.

RE: heard hearts of palm | from Seth HowardOct 20 2000 - 10:08

Nice work! Like all Idaho records, it takes a little getting used to, but it's a very rewarding album. I love the variety of sounds and arrangements.

The engineering and mixing (as always with Idaho records) is amazing.

Now if only Idaho and Radiohead (or the Sea and Cake for that matter) had traded budgets for their most recent releases. I doubt that you guys would produce such uninteresting records with a few more bucks.

RE: heard hearts of palm | from DaveOct 10 2000 - 02:32

I like this album! My favorites so
far are "Dum Dum," "This Cloud We're
On," and "Before You Go." Jeff,
you've done some really beautiful
stuff with the piano on this album
that I hope re-appears on the next
EP and following albums. That and
washes of feedback keep Dave a
happy camper.

Nice work on the CD, I hope the
tour's going well, and I hope to
see you play in Seattle soon!

RE: heard hearts of palm | from DaveAug 29 2000 - 20:04

That last paragraph of yours Dan is
music to my ears - literally I hope!
We'd love an EP! Having it so soon
would really be amazing - just don't
overwork yourselves too much!

RE: heard hearts of palm | from danAug 29 2000 - 12:50

It is a little disconcerting that
die-hard fans aren't the very
first to sample the wares, but then
that gets into the whole ugly
commerce side of the equation.

I can honestly say that I still
don't understand the long lead
times on most records. I know that
John and Dale are working their
proverbial asses off making things
happen for both this and the live
record.

As a band, we usually need some lead time to
learn the material again. Making
a record is a very disjointed process,
at least the way we do it. By the time we get to the
end of the effort, the things we
did at the beginning are a little
foreign to us.

I think there is almost an ep's
worth of songs that didn't make it
to the record that perhaps will be
released soon after the record with
an added song or two from current
things we are working on.

Hey, can y'all pick me up a copy of "Old Ramon" while you're at it?

That's ok. I think I can wait a little longer. After all, you have to give the press and radio time to sing your praises right?

RE: heard hearts of palm | from jeffAug 29 2000 - 09:22

many copies go out to radio and journalists etc up to 3 months before the release date....and then, of course, some copies may end up in used bins at record stores...what can i say other then shucks.....the whole record will probably be downloadable from napster any day now

RE: heard hearts of palm | from DaveAug 29 2000 - 07:22

I'm in the same boat as William,
when is the release date? And if
the whole thing is already
completely finished (?), why's the
release date not for another month
and a half? Just curious.

RE: heard hearts of palm | from williamAug 28 2000 - 18:39

did i miss something? i thought it wasn't out till october...

RE: heard hearts of palm | from brianAug 28 2000 - 18:23

just got my copy today too. the
production/recording is excellent.
nice digipak design and art. was wondering
how you tracked the songs? Jeff, did
you play drums and Dan play guitar
for rough tracks then you and/or Dan
go back for overdubs or play to any
click tracks or drum loops while you
played guitar and then go add drums?
just curious since you played all the drums
except on 2 songs and sound more comfortable
(for lack of words). so far i really like
DUM DUM and BEFORE YOU GO. thanks for the
time and effort put into making this
cd Jeff and Dan, hope to see you soon
in Dallas/Fort Worth area.
