ooooh you're all being a bit harsh about dakota suite. just face up to it - they've done a 7" with idaho. you can buy it or not buy it. the choice is yours. for the record i think strawdogs does have similarities in sound with some of jeff buckley's stuff.

RE: idaho / dakota suite 7inch | from chrisJan 16 2003 - 17:51

I quite like Dakot Suite's "signal hill"... I agree that they look like(with the album covers) they're trying to be RHP-but we all feel that way sometimes, don't we? By the way, Songs for a Blue Guitar contains mostly great originals-I agree that the Yes cover was lame, but the Cars' "All Mixed Up" was vastly improved by Mark, and "Silly Love Songs" was turned from a Wings top 40 hit into a tragedy as only RHP can do with a picked "e" note repeated about 49 times at the beginning. This is the album that got Mark K kicked off of 4AD.

i found misplacedmusic's comparison of idaho to jeff buckley to be a bit over the top... not to throw any mud on either artist (they're both great in their own way), but i'm just not seeing any similarities in their music/sound. i guess, the only commonality i can find would perhaps be both jeff's years of music study etc...

i also have not come across any dakota suite material that i could find listenable ... but i'm sure they're nice people, if you guys say so...

RE: idaho / dakota suite 7inch | from michelJan 15 2003 - 10:00

JR their url is www.hooson.demon.co.uk

and John you're right they are very nice people. i ordered 'a murder in the company of the vespertine' a comp. album with Dakota Suite on it, before this was actually released. Chris Hooson didn't want me to pay for it, because the rest of the album was all weird electronic music, they were quite shocked themselves. Talked to them also after an amsterdam gig they did, pretty much like Idaho they're always glad and willing to talk to the people.

Whoa "P".... What, do they owe you money?

I haven't actually heard them yet, but I'm hoping to get our meager stock soon. They seem like nice enough people...

I'm sorry, but dakota suite REALLY suck. Totally derivitive fakers.
I can't believe Idaho would let themselves share the same vinyl with these lame toss-pots

RE: idaho / dakota suite 7inch | from richardJan 14 2003 - 13:49

idaho/dakota suite is out now on misplaced music www.misplacedmusic.co.uk for mail order details. the idaho track is strawdogs and the dakota suite tracks are you packed your things and narcolepsy lake.

dakota suite, i couldn't give a shit for but idaho is a band that
still and always will be important
to me. RHP also is a band that will
give you just the album you want to slit your wrists too,and i say
that in an endering way.
(well maybe not songs for a blue guitar)what was with all
the cover songs!

Dakota Suite certainly is not up to par with Idaho or RHP, but they are definitely not unlistenable either. You just have to be in the right mood for them.

RE: idaho / dakota suite 7inch | from DanOct 31 2002 - 08:37

Does anyone know what the Idaho track on the 7" is ? I've seen it listed for release on Monday here in the UK.... (4th Nov)

( Surely it should be Skyscrape and Mood Indigo ! ;-)

RE: idaho / dakota suite 7inch | from michelOct 09 2002 - 11:27

I like Dakota Suite very much actually, i dig all their albums. but i would want to think twice about seeing them live again, since they don't really care about what goes on live, and are messy as hell. My favourite cd "songs for a barbed wire fence"

RE: idaho / dakota suite 7inch | from .Oct 09 2002 - 03:38

all their covers look like rhp albums. i think the instrumental albums though are deffinately the most interesting. "the way i am sick" is good but "navigators yard" is superb, very minimal though, which obviously isn't for everyone

RE: idaho / dakota suite 7inch | from ephraimOct 09 2002 - 00:46

dakota suite is sooooooo lame. i bought
the one that looks like a red house
painters album and it was so BORING.
almost unlistenable. you can tell what
they listen to, but they do not come
close to being original or good. the
vocals are very questionable as are
the lyrics. whatever, they're better
than my band.

RE: idaho / dakota suite 7inch | from micahOct 08 2002 - 18:15

i posted about this very thing a while back and it seems it didn't happen and it's not going to. you can look it up in the board archives.
