RE: microphone | from jeffMar 14 2001 - 14:59

im using a coles ribbon mic thru a urei 1176 compressor or a hand held sure sm 56 with a neuman tube U67 about 5 feet away. no special trick to toms...just good drums played well. no compression..maybe a sennheiser (sp?) 421....good room mics too ...neve 1272 makes everything perfect....no need for them on toms for some reason...i use these preamps whose name escapes me for those

I've always thought you got great
tom-tom sounds. What mics, gates, pre's and comps do you use for them? Any samples underneath the
toms, or any other drums for that
matter?

Jeff, What type of condenser, room size, preamp, compression setting, etc., do you use to represent your voice. Your voicebox is nice... its unique blessing with extra resonant buzz. Have you chosen a mic and technique to aid in its accentuation?
