Logic is very cool indeed. My band (well, one of them anyway) is recording with a friend who's running Logic. I think we used Magneto on my drums (or some similar plugin) - instant Ringo.

Cool Edit is well worth checking out if you have a PC (I don't). It can be downloaded for free, but I have no idea where at the moment. There are lots of stock effects built in that sound pretty good.

Lately I've been getting kinda sick of fussing with digital. When I daydream, it's usually about Otari "1/2 8 track and some nice pres and compressors. Of course, analog has its own problems.

i dont have the patience to learn logic......is it worth getting to know?

Oh...if you want a cheaper mixer, Berhinger has an 8 or 12 channel mixer (knobs instead of faders). It has 4 or 6 aux sends, 3 band eq, great mic pre's..I think it runs around $200...cool little tiny thing that sounds great.

Thanks alot for your advice Dave. Tape Op is a great read. All the best to ya!

Jeffs probably the pro on this subject, but getting something like the Lexicon Core II sound card (4 in/8 out spdif in/out) ($139), mixed with a mixer like the Mackie 1604 (16 in, 4 buss out, good mic pres, great eq...$700 or so). Im learning Cubase and Logic (Logic is very cool!!!), and have a similar setup. Its very similar to Pro Tools, but more affordable, plus the best effect plugins (VST, Direct X) are only compatible with Cubase, Logic...but not Pro Tools.

I hate to say this, but I personally think the Pro Tools effects are dated and limited.

Pro Tools is a standard, has been for well over 10 years now, somewhat easier to use, especially better if you have a full studio and clients know you have Pro Tools Vs. Cubase or Logic...= more dinero.

Read www.TapeOp.com for info on all 3 at the messageboard, read mags (like I have done alot before my decision), and if price is a huge matter, think about Logic...it is VERY cool!!!

Yeah that's bummer with it. I don't need more than 2 at the mo.. so it should be OK. Thanks.

I downloaded PT Free, but it's frustrating with my setup because of latency issues. I usually just dump AIFF files into it to tweak them now. I've heard the MBox is pretty cool, but two inputs are kind of a drag.

Hi gang. I'm seriously thinking about getting a digidesign MBOX. That's all I can afford at the mo. Has anyone got or used one? Can anyone give me some advice on cheap Digital recording? Thankyou all.
