the palms ep originally had the current idaho wordmark ( a new word for me) on it.. who ever was putting together the last touches on it at caroline thought it was too crude and replaced it with some common font. year after year was designed and just before i had to design "this way out" i stumbled upon an early print of the palms ep. the wordmark looked really perfect to me and i had to seperate it from the background with photo shop because i forgot where i had stolen the letters from. ( i believe everything but the "O" was taken from a 1930's russian propoganda poster...this is why the "O" looks a little odd, obviously. )

Jeff,
I'm curious. The Idaho wordmark is a constant on the covers of all the albums and E.P.s, except of course for Year After Year. I was wondering whether or not there was some kind of story regarding the variant cover design, or whether the wordmark had simply not yet been cemented as the icon of the band.

Also, was the wordmark taken from an actual map? I've always wondered.

In any case, the wordmark, imagery, and design of Idaho album covers have always been a source of fascination for me.
