Jeff on his 4 stringers | from Joe KAug 10 2001 - 08:35
I found it really neat to watch Jeff play his 4 string hand-made guitars at the 3 Chicago shows after reading about it numerous times for years in zine articles. His hands are in constant motion, each chord has a completely different finger placement, unlike standardized power-chord rock. He makes it look very easy, as well as way too complicated for my hands to fathom. It seems to be played more like a piano, in theory, than most guitar playing. I see the idea behind it, most chords on a piano require only 4 keys, 7 chords, 9 chords (well, maybe not 11 or 13 chords), but you get the picture. Any comment, Jeff?
