Me and my band just toured Britain and the only album we all agreed on was the Modern Lovers, so thats all we listened to for just over two weeks!
By the way Dan, the label you're thinking of is Beserkely - they have almost all the modern lovers stuff. Do you know of any bands remotely similar to them (ethos, style, lyrics) that aren't the BMX Bandits?

One of the first singles I ever got was a promo from some little label with The Rubinoos, Greg Kihn and Jonathan Richman. My brother and I naturally gravitated to the Jonathan Richman stuff.
A huge fan that re-introduced Jonathan Richman to the whole band was Thom Moore who guitar teched for us on some of the This Way Out touring when he was but a wee lad. Speaking of brothers, Thom and his brother are amazing songwriters as well. Check out the Moore Brothers stuff. I think they have a record that is just out on Amazing Grease records.

After the Television posting below I thought someone should mention another cool band of the same era - the Modern Lovers. Any fans out there? I wouldn't expect Jeff or Dan to be fans since its a mite less intorverted than their music but there'll always be a place in my heart for 'Ice cream man' an such like.
