I can't believe it's taken me so long to hear about this. Rest in peace, John.
If you'd like to I would certainly be honored. Either way please pass on my condolences to his friends and family and let them know his work has made a positive life long impression.
At the time I found out about his passing I believe I sent out an all too hastily typed version of the below in an email only to notice after the fact there were some unfortunate "auto-corrections" made on behalf of my "all-knowing/all-wise" hand held device.
Take care,
Ben
Wow Ben thanks!! I may read this at his memorial.
I know you likely have a lot on your proverbial plate at this time but I wanted to take a moment to send my condolences to both you and Mr. Berry's family and friends.
The music the two of you made together in Idaho had a profound impact on my early teenage years. It was both brutal and beautiful and has carved a permanent place in my heart and mind.
I may not listen to those early records you made together very often but it's almost not necessary. I've internalized those sounds and feelings so much so that they are a permanent part of me.
I'm sure I am not alone when I say that as trite or corny as it may sound, John will indeed in some small way remain alive in every single person who loved what he created even if we never really knew him on personal level. That's the beauty of art done right.
Take care,
Ben
