ross i certainly have to agree with
you on this one. case in point lou

Dan is really nice. Too nice. Unless you are a skinhead in Philly. Or a BMW driving dick who tries to run him off the road while he is training for the AIDS bike ride.

It's his wife that is the hard-ass

Love,
Mrs. Dan Seta

right on!

RE: This Ugliness. | from G.Nov 23 2000 - 04:59

I just hope Dan doesn't stop visiting the board because of all this. This is the only newsgroup I visit regularly, and it's cool to be able to chat (so to speak) with a favourite band.

That's a lotta' words, Ross, but I
agree with every one of 'em. Thank
you.

why we feel the desire to put names on each tune of music?
the best time for a good listening is maybe the time where we precisely know..anything, where we are not yet "a fan". after , we become bad tempered, cantankerous, pernickety (and i am).
i am a fan, me and my brother, this fortunate guy who has left me "year after year", the record and, recently, we were talking about "fall around", how much this song was really nice and we noticed the rhythm was important too in the strange beauty of idaho.
ok, there is the amazing sound of guitar but sincerely, the first notes of "forever"..how forget them? it' devours as it comforts
in fatc, what i like with idaho, it's their conquering music, always in progress, always wide, maybe idealistic...
and i adore their sensitive vision of world - thunderstorm under the skull of deaf man - versus - 'll swallow the whole world
in fact, that's pure chimera of my part..
what is sure, however, it's these guys are visited by the gods, and inspired, inspired, and inspired.
after..maybe we must not go and search for behind..

Although I vowed not to climb atop my soapbox within the confines of this newsgroup again, I feel that something should be said about all this talk about who’s better, in regards to John Berry vs. Dan Seta. It’s first of all a stupid argument to make. Orange juice isn’t necessarily better than apple juice, you just might prefer one to the other. Regardless of what I think of your opinions, I believe that some degree of consideration should used when going around sharing them.

Comparing these two equally, yet diversely talented individuals, seems to me, a foolish venture. I agree that opinions are like asshole, and yes, we are entitled to them. Yet at the same time, those with opinions don’t necessarily need to around spreading their opinions like assholes.

Clearly speaking as an asshole myself, I just don’t think that it’s a comparison that you can make. I don’t mean to sound all righteous, and whatever, but people are just passing broad judgements on people they don’t even know. What you are likely talking about in actuality is the music. So you may be from the old school and really like John Berry, or you have been enchanted by the latest Idaho records and favour Dan Seta. Well, that’s what you think any way. In reality you are saying that you like the way one plays over the other. Yet what you’re actually saying is that John is better than Dan or vice versa. Well, you’re a fucking idiot. You’re attaching someone’s name to your opinion, and the danger there is that these people have sensitivities, like everyone, but especially artists that put so much of themselves into the music that you listen to. And when you sit there and write on some newsgroup that you think that someone is of less value to the band, you are passing judgement on something you really have no absolute knowledge of, only an opinion. I guess all I’m saying is that you should think before you say something.

I’m really sorry to be going on like this, but I think that as fans, some of you have proven yourselves to be less than loyal. It’s a question of appreciation, really. I mean think about it. Idaho has been fortunate enough to actually have both a John Berry and a Dan Seta. That’s fucking awesome, in my humble opinion. I have been a fan for a while, so, I too, have a deeply fond attachment to dark landscapes John Berry brought to the music, early on. If any of you have had to meet the man, you’d have to agree, a more kind, gracious and humble guy, you’ll never meet. However, at the same time, the music that Idaho has created under the influence of Dan Seta, has been probably the best I’ve ever heard. The idea that some people in a newsgroup can just dismiss him on a whim, because in their opinion John Berry is nicer, is absolutely ludicrous. When the hell did this become a popularity contest, and even more still, when did this become a opinion poll on pitting John against Dan? Not that you shouldn’t speak your mind, but please use some degree of tact. At any rate, regardless of what the status of Idaho, and where John and Dan fit within, I guess we’ll know for sure when we’re told. Just appreciate that there is a band as amazing as Idaho, and that it has been graced by these two brilliant muses, as well (of course) Jeff and the scores of musicians who have helped elevate this band far above the drivel that’s out there. Appreciate what both these men have brought to the music and most importantly, embrace the diversity of their talents.

I’m sorry, I suck, I know, but it just had to be said.
