The song that started it all for me or rather, moved me to realize how brilliant Idaho is, is "Creep" from "The palms EP". I can still listen to it as well as most other Idaho tracks over and over again. I never tire of listening to Idaho. :)
hey dean!
no man, i have actually never even heard one single hayden song i think. but i guess i will when i get my dirty little hands on that record.
Did you get the last Hayden LP Roger? Has a couple of clunkers on it but a few really beautiful songs. Well worth a listen.
no i haven't. but i think i know a guy here in stockholm that can fix me the cd. i need to get it.
JR
have you heard the comp before? its amazing, there are a couple of really great red house painter, low, and hayden songs on it.
i was thinking about shanti today on my way to work. i have get my hands on that record.
as far as "one song" is concerned, my first idaho songs were from the shanti project comp album and they were enough for me to eventually proclaim idaho as my favorite band, so i suppose I would choose one of them.
the first two IDAHO songs i ever heard were "to be the one" and "get to the bottom." the rest, as they say, is history.
i like "happy times" alot, because it's so jarring. it's definitely dirgy and NOT pretty, which is intriguing.
I think "Skyscrape" is the most representative song. It could almost be on any of the albums, old or new.
Seth, I know exactly how you feel. Very annoying isn't it? Aj, you're right. Oops.
how about ok then kiss some bums?
alex,
should we assume that ok then is a he?
silly, silly people these days...
cheers!
It seems to me that the songs I write that I like the least are the ones other people tend to like most. Ugh.
jeff-- very cool that you show up around here. I just wanna say that I try hard to glean the diamonds from the shite when it comes to music. SO many times I have heard about such and such a band or read a glowing review only to find the music generic at best, horrible more likely.
I've been aware of Idaho for a few years but you were always on the "gotta find out what they sound like" list. I live in Nowheresville, Oklahoma so it's not like there's tons of access to good or hip music.
Anyways, I just want to thank you for being among the few who DON'T suck or don't put out one cool record then go on to suck immediately after that. You obviously got soul and work hard crafting songs. We appreciate you for it.
And if that's bum-kissy, so be it.
So I suppose g.n. and J.R. are bum kissers too, what with those positive, pro-Idaho posts and all. Gosh, I hope I'm not next.
Perhaps he read it out of context. Either way: Screw you, ok then.
Maybe you could explain how telling Jeff he doesn't like one of his songs makes Alex a blatant bum kisser. I like Happy Times. Uh-oh, now I'm a blatant bum kisser. I guess either way, Ok Then thinks we're all blatant bum kissers. My life in ruined.
alex: blatant bum kisser.
Jeff, I agree with you about "Happy Times" for the same reasons you mention. But alas, it's still better than almost everything by any other band. : )
you must be kidding. i love alta dena! one of my absolute fav tracks on hearts of palm.
How 'bout a snippet/preview? Throw us a frickin' bone...!
alta dena...is the 1st one thtat comes to mind. when dan 1st came up with the guitar part we would play around with the idea at rehearsals......it was great then...i dont know what happend..its mostly just the way it sounds , the plodding tempo and rigid drums...come to think of it ...happy times is sort of annoying to me..i know it has its positive aspects ...its just sort of sludgey and deppressing to me. i really want you all to hear the new one damn it!
Hey Jeff, any songs you can't stand now? I find some old songs (of mine) really uncomfortable to play, let alone listen to.
"on the shore" and "this cloud we're on" are the songs I usually put on to introduce IDAHO to my friends--sadly, it's not so much because they wanted to know who IDAHO was, but because a lot of my other (non-IDAHO) CDs suck now.
for some reason when someone asks me what my band sounds like i play them "on the shore". i agree with "to be the one" as a good introduction.
without a doubt, "get you back"
I agree with you, Andrew. It's not that I think "To Be The One" is the most representative of Idaho's sound. In fact, I think it's probably the closest to a shiny pop song Jeff has written. Still, all the elements are there, and they're presented in a way that a new listener would be more likely to be able to relate to.
If you think it's stupid, then don't post. I'll add that "To Be the One" would probably be a good introduction.
stupid topic, really stupid.
I guess it kind of depends on what you want the new listener to get out of it. Personally, I'd choose from either "Sweep", "Levitate", or "Stare at the Sky."
sorry. but impossible
!@#$&*&%%!
if you blokes had to pick just one IDAHO song to sort of... represent them to a new listener, which song would you pick? (i know, i know, this is an impossible question, but answer anyways... and explain why you picked the song you did).
