yea, i actually like "haligh, haligh..." too. that is a good song. but it's the only one of that record. and it's the only one i own.

I noticed that "Lifted" has jumped way up in the sales ranking on Amazon and it has garnered something like 75 reviews. Before the show, there were around 5 I think. Another surprise: Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds were just on Letterman tonight. Sounded awful compared to their albums. The song just wasn't any good either. Letterman seemed to love it though. I really like the song "Love Letter" of of "And No More Shall We Part".

I have "Lifted..." and I'm going to see Bright Eyes in London in August. For the time being, I like the record a lot. My definitive verdict will come after seeing them live.

conor's lyrics AND voice are so amazingly touching... saw them live, and they were great as well...
come one, listen to "haligh, haligh,..."

John:Was more annoyed that you forgot to bring the vinegar to enflame my wounds.
You really have lost your edge.

JB - I'm with you. I have Bright Eyes "Lifted..." and have no idea what the hoopla is all about. Compared to And You Will Know Us..., or the Black Watch - BE seems like limited time wasted.
No Way Out, Three Sheets, Levitate, Hearts of Palm are much more deserving...but that is true of most stuff out there....

RE: Bright Eyes on Letterman | from michelJun 14 2003 - 12:30

Hey JB does that mean you find Steve Reich far from recommendable?

RE: Bright Eyes on Letterman | from Blue-AstronautJun 13 2003 - 17:38

Ok. Kill the thread. The irony is deafening.

RE: Bright Eyes on Letterman | from JBJun 13 2003 - 16:57

Shosta-who?
What, is that a trick question?
How about Scriabin, Part, Gorecki, Satie, Albinoni, Barber, Stockhausen, Xenakis, Takamitsu, Penderecki, Chopin, Mahler, Berg, Webern, Nono, Debussy, Cage, Toop,
Koons, Motherwell, Kline, Viola...
Ooppps, I ventured into another media...

RE: Bright Eyes on Letterman | from michelJun 13 2003 - 16:27

so, .. has anyone ever heard of Shostakovich?

RE: Bright Eyes on Letterman | from JBJun 13 2003 - 14:58

Hmmmmm, someone's feeling feisty?

Yeah Dean, Sorry I'm opinionated.
I can't help it if I'm discriminating. I think you're just mad about that time I burned you...you remember....that time I knocked the ashtray off your back...next time I'll wait to smoke until AFTERWARDS

RE: Bright Eyes on Letterman | from no one in particularJun 13 2003 - 11:44

I don't have anything to contribute. I've heard Bright Eyes, and I personally don't get it, but different strokes for different folks, right? anyways, I just thought all of the back-and-forth was funny.

RE: Bright Eyes on Letterman | from JR OlssonJun 13 2003 - 07:26

way to go JB! i agree. he is (was?) a little hype even here in sweden. but the last time he was here he obviously sucked pretty hard. i haven't heard anything about since. nothing on the news or radio. i think he was so drunk he couldn't play. i wasn't there though. but that's what i've heard. the kid has a drinking problem.

RE: Bright Eyes on Letterman | from DeanJun 13 2003 - 05:33

No good picking 1 crappy line and using it as critical amo. Every now and then he hits his stride and writes some amazing stuff. Check out " a perfect sonnet". JB: you are full of bile today.
It's most unbecoming in a lady.

RE: Bright Eyes on Letterman | from JBJun 13 2003 - 04:44

Oh, and as for Wynona - Who hasn't!
Green Day/Beck/Soul Asylem/ Dodi-al-Fayed/ Jim Brown- a couple months ago..(former bassist in Idaho '94)/ Daniel Day Lewis/ Johnny Depp/Etc...ad nauseum

RE: Bright Eyes on Letterman | from JBJun 13 2003 - 04:39

Big deal, I was writing lyrics and songs at 16. so what. From the content of lyrics I could decipher, I would guess he's about 17 now. "The virgin is in my room/taking off her dress/what should I do?" That's tender stuff for a tard. Give me a break.

RE: Bright Eyes on Letterman | from elliottJun 13 2003 - 01:52

damn straight dean

RE: Bright Eyes on Letterman | from DeanJun 13 2003 - 01:20

Yes voice is a little annoying but that boy was writing lyrics at the age of 16 that most of you will never get close to matching.

RE: Bright Eyes on Letterman | from Seth HowardJun 12 2003 - 20:41

I had the misfortune of seeing that band live once. Being a fly on the wall at a not-very-interesting-but-still-tortured dude's therapy session is not my idea of a good time.

RE: Bright Eyes on Letterman | from JammaJun 12 2003 - 16:17

At least he munching on Wynona Ryder's bush. Kudos Bright Eyes!

RE: Bright Eyes on Letterman | from JBJun 12 2003 - 16:04

Yeah, I saw that too. Thier publicist must be blowing someone at Late Night.I don't know if his voice constntly shakes - but it does constantly suck. That band needs a makeover. The singers hair looked like a half hearted hommage to the Flock of Seagulls and the drummer belongs on the Grand Funk Railroad reunion tour.
I hope I haven't offended anyone except Bright Eyes...Sorry.

Bright Eyes on Letterman | from AlexJun 12 2003 - 06:46

Did anyone else see this last night? I was very surprised to see them on this show. I didn't think they were that popular. I don't own any of his CDs so does his voice constantly shake on all of the recordings, or was he just nervous?
