Or... get California on its own, if you can find it. Easier to find and also worthwhile are Mercury (in cut-out bins everywhere for some insane reason) and Everclear.

The United Kingdom / California CD. The songs "Blue and Grey Shirt" and "Last Harbor" make it essential. To this day they remain two of the best songs Eitzel has ever written.
california/caught in a trap
blue grey shirt/helium
AMC's masterpiece is "Everclear" for me. It's definitely the saddest, most reverb-drenched AMC album. I love Bruce Kaphan's production. My favorite Eitzel solo album is "The Invisible Man." But 60-Watt Silver Lining is up there, too.
My AMC top 5, all superb:
1. Engine
2. Everclear
3. United Kingdom
4. California
5. Mercury
Not as up on the Eitzel solo stuff, although there's a great single he put out around 1990 on Matador, which contains an early version of "Take Courage" and another lovely tune with a ridiculously long title that I like a lot. Haven't seen it on CD anywheres....
'the revolving door' and 'ex-girlfriend' are the the most beautiful songs
AMC: San Francisco
solo: 60 Watt Silver Lining
(Invisible Man and his covers record, Music for Courage & Confidence are also very rewarding)
Fans should'nt go without any of the AMC or solo releases.
Everclear is my favorite, but Engine has a few of my favorite AMC songs. Invisible Man and Songs of Love... are both great.
I love "Caught in a Trap..."
i think "invisible man" is mark's apex, and "everclear" is my favorite AMC album. i also love "the restless stranger" - i don't know why mark/AMC have such a low opinion of it.
i personally love Songs of Love Live. all of marks solo stuff is really good though. but definitly mercury from AMC
I like "Mercury" and I think that "Invisible Man" is his best solo record. Many will disagree with me, I'm sure.
so what are the best american
music club and mark eitzel albums?
