Some of the quotes above are from "This Way Out" with a picture of the ocean on the cover. Kind of reminds me of the end of "Interiors" by Woody Allen. Regardless, it's actually a very inspirational CD, with a certain striving for personal growth/inner strength. "Three Sheets..." has the lines "your lamp is burned without a second thought, maybe you don't need it." I hope I quoted that right and that Idaho comes again to Chicago.

avocados and grapefruits would do just fine, but tension building is hard work, so you need a cow.

I finally got LEVITATE, and if I may be so bold as to say, THIS IS A FUCKING AWESOME CD. It took me a few listens (as does any great record), but it really grew on me. Music is hard to communicate with words, but all I can say is that it seems to take you through all of your emotions. I love Jeff's use of the piano in this record perfectly combined with the guitar distortion.
I already have People like us should be stopped, but haven't listened yet since I can't get LEVITATE out of my CD player. Please fix your shopping cart so I can start buying direct. Need to get Alas next.....

RE: Jeff... Thank you. | from Sam SMay 31 2002 - 14:15

This Way Out is a chilling, solipsistic emotional roller coaster ride that no other band or artist can match-- it's Five Leaves Left times 10. Only for use while driving all by yourself on a lonely trip with nothing but time to think about your innermost feelings. Not for the shallow.

Three Sheets, the "rock" Idaho record, is awesome-- not because of what rock did for Idaho, but because of what Idaho did for rock. Ditto for the Bayonet EP-- the "punk" record!

Idaho has permanently changed the way I've heard other bands before or since.

RE: Jeff... Thank you. | from RossMay 28 2002 - 10:52

I am always so blown away by how much of profound effect the music of IDAHO has on people... The closest I can get to an explanation is that it is music that compells you to listen. I find you can't put it on if people are talking - primarily from my own knee-jerk reaction is to tell people to can it and listen.

I find it almost impossible to pick a favourite song or album. I have to say there's nothing but gold on Forbidden E.P. "Hold Everything", "Bass Crawl"... well all the tracks. Total brilliance.

Anyway, it's really about how the music gives you chills. Jeff et al. have consistently made music that seems to heal people.

RE: Jeff... Thank you. | from BeanMay 28 2002 - 08:22

" Late December is what I'm feeling...." Ooooh: even typing that gives me shivers.

RE: Jeff... Thank you. | from jesseMay 24 2002 - 12:00

my favorite idaho album is three sheets to the wind, maybe because it was my first exposure to idaho, but to me it is a perfect album. it is hard to choose a favorite song but "alive again" , just jeff and piano, has to be one of the most beautiful songs.

RE: Jeff... Thank you. | from michelMay 23 2002 - 11:17

there's this down to earth line in Apricots to A. from The Forbidden EP that really moves me still after hearing this song maybe a thousand times by now. --"Does anyone see you for what you are - you remember someone but she's run too far"--
this person actually existed.

RE: Jeff... Thank you. | from CrisMay 23 2002 - 09:23

WOW. Everybody here is so cool. Never been on a messageboard before.

I will check out your website Brian.

I tried to get Levitate last night & could not find it. Apparently you can't just pick it up at your corner record store. But I am on a quest to find it today. I don't want to have to order it & wait.

Anybody else have a specific Idaho song or CD that means something special to them?

RE: Jeff... Thank you. | from ashleyMay 23 2002 - 08:27

hi cris, i think you would like the song 'stare at the sky' it is off the 1996 release "three sheets to the wind".. i think it's track 6. also, i think you would like the song 'forever'. it is the last song on their 2nd record "this way out". personally, i've had a lot of enjoyment from just building my collection of idaho releases - to me the music is so open & powerful that i cannot be without anything that is idaho... peace!

RE: Jeff... Thank you. | from ddMay 22 2002 - 19:41

Cris...Listen and SOAK in every, single idaho moment...and whatever you do...see them live--even if it means quitting your job and hitting the road...you will never regret it.

RE: Jeff... Thank you. | from brian817May 22 2002 - 15:35

Cris,
there are many great Idaho songs to be found. just take your time.

i , like many others here, have a band. we've gone through some changes but hopefully will be playing live again this year.

if interested, www.ultragrey.com

feel free to email me at brian817@yahoo.com if you ever want to talk more. everybody could use another friend.

RE: Jeff... Thank you. | from CrisMay 22 2002 - 14:34

Hi Brian. I'm from the Dallas area. It is a small world afterall.

Yeah, that lyric gets me too. Great song. I don't know what my favorite Idaho track is yet, since I've only heard Hearts. It will be fun finding out. I'm sure I'll have many. So much to listen to.

Do you have a band? Play locally?

RE: Jeff... Thank you. | from brian817May 22 2002 - 11:59

Cris, which part of Texas are you from? i'm in Ft. Worth. and am always pleased to find another local fan.

To Be The One is one of my favorite Idaho tracks as well. The song that always gets me though from Hearts Of Palm is Evolution Is Cold with the lyric "I just want to be attractive to you, want you to do things you use to do". gets me everytime.

Year After Year helped me through some really bad depressed times and is still a huge influence on the music i create. it's still my favorite release.

thanks again Jeff & John.

RE: Jeff... Thank you. | from CrisMay 22 2002 - 08:43

Jeff - Thanks. I will pick it up on my way home. Can't wait.

RE: Jeff... Thank you. | from CrisMay 22 2002 - 08:39

Bean - You're right. Gender was irrelevant.

Christian - Thanks for the input.

RE: Jeff... Thank you. | from jeffMay 22 2002 - 08:21

cris, go t o the latest release LEVITATE next and then work your way back from HEARTS... you can see the chronology on the discography page of this site. ill let you know when we come over to texas again...thanks so much

RE: Jeff... Thank you. | from christianMay 22 2002 - 04:37

if i could add my two cents, cris, "alas" got me through an extremely traumatic breakup. that record was all i listened to in the fall of '98 when it was released. in fact it's still bittersweet for me to listen to it 3 1/2 years laster, but i think it's my favorite Idaho cd just because it had such an impact on me.

RE: Jeff... Thank you. | from BeanMay 22 2002 - 01:35

No you didn't, you sounded like a human being.

RE: Jeff... Thank you. | from CrisMay 21 2002 - 14:40

By the way, I am a female. Cris is my nickname. I just read my message back and I sounded like some wussy guy. Sorry.

I know this sounds cheesy but... | from CrisMay 21 2002 - 14:21

I just had to tell you how much your music has had an impact on
me. I am almost embarrassed to say
that I have just discovered
Idaho...but I am also very
excited. I see all these people chatting that have been listening to your music for years, but I am just getting started. It's like the romantic and passionate time at the beginning of a new relationship. I have been separated for 2 mths from an 11 yr marriage (I got married when I was 18)and my brother sent me the Hearts of Palm CD. I cried when I heard To Be The One. I'm sure it's my current emotional state, but it's awesome when music has that kind of impact on you. I was almost home, but I kept driving so that I could listen to the rest of the CD. I have been listening to it for a week now and I want to go out and get all of your other CDs I can find, but I don't dare... because I want to soak in each one slowly. I have seen mixed reviews, everyone seems to have a different favorite. Which one would you recommend I soak in next and are you coming to Dallas or Austin (or anywhere in Texas, I will drive)anytime soon? I would love to see a live show. Thanks again for the music.
