Just downloaded 'Paralyzed'. Sounds like Nik Kershaw! May God forgive you, Jeff.

The early tracks are definitely of 80's vintage, but worth hearing nonetheless. Cool synth work, especially on Never Back Again.
How you didn’t become a big star back then fronting a band like the Talking Heads and go on to produce U2 albums I'll never know. (Then again, why Idaho isn't universally adored or at least more well known is beyond my understanding...)
Can't wait for Levitate...
Hi Jeff and all!!
I too would love to hear as much of the earlier songs possible. What amazes me the most on these songs is that your voice (although effected) is so strong. Another thing about 'em is that the song structures are mucked about, something I've always loved about Idaho songs... the surprise journey. MORE!
while i was going through my boxes of tapes i stuck one in and found the mulchy piece of sound in question....i finally figured out that it is a cassette 8 track recording of that song called "tear" that that we played live a lot back in 1993....its on the live "people" cd....1/2 speed and nothin showed up on the meters so its just bleed through which adds to the cool murkyness....
Nah, it definitely sounds like someone playing Donkey Kong at half speed, which is what I'd prefer all music to strive for.
jeff,
my guess for the final song in the mp3 section is that it's the opening notes of 'gods green earth'.
i'm probably way off there.. i'm not sure. there are similar notes there, but the strange effect on everything really cloaks it. the clip sounds a bit like stuff i've heard before that has been played backward by a musician live and then reversed (played forward) on the tape deck... nonetheless, i'm really curious to find out what it is..
ooo this is fun, can we play again???
i think it's great, you should put up 11 or so of these old songs and then you'll have a "garage days" album for fans to download. or you could even download them to a cd-r and sell them for like 5 bucks on here. i'd buy one for sure.
ill have a few more things up maybe by tonight.....there's a mountain of cassettes im going through and ive just hardly scraped the top of it....what i really cant stomach is the way i sang in the 80's...just too affected...
Not to imply that these songs sound like skeletons in the closet, right? These songs are great! I didn't produce anything of note when I was 19. I can't wait for the Idaho version of the Guided By Voices Suitcase release.
Sounds like stuff off Charlie Sexton's first record...minus the guitars. Hey I got skeletons like this in my home recording crypt.
Cool....
The new MP3 sounds like something off Nine Inch Nail's first album, Pretty Hate Machine! Or at least the demos from that album, which you probably can't get from Napster anymore. That album was great! I'm sure most people will disagree with both these statements, so, unlike you, I'll be looking forward to connecting all the early Idaho MP3's into Jeff Martin's own Pretty Hate Machine. No! Jeff, come back!
thanks Jeff, one is better than
