i still pop over here once in a while to see if anything's going on. i'm the johnny west guy. i really appreciate the kind words...never thought i'd be a highlight for anyone on that compilation! it's still an honour to have shared CD space with jeff.
my music has changed a lot since then...grown more layered and organic, and more interesting on a sonic level, i think. i'd be happy to send you some if you're interested. feel free to shoot me an email.

I remember reading about the Something Must Break compilation on this board back in 2005. For some reason, at the time, I never heard it. The other day, I was pleased to find a used copy at a record store for $3, and I snatched it right up. Listening to it has been interesting. I'm impressed with the Johnny West and Alex Niedt tracks - those are great! And the songs by Everyday and Minor Ache are wonderful as well. On the other hand, there is one song that is the most listless, pathetic YAY-era Idaho ripoff song I've ever heard. I won't mention the band's name, but anyone who has heard the comp must know who I mean. In addition, there is another band on there who is very good instrumentally, but has absolutely the most laughably terrible singer I've ever heard. It's hard to imagine that it's not a joke.
All in all, I'm very glad I got to hear this compilation. The quality does vary wildly but I guess that's true of any comp. If any of the participants still read this message board, cheers.
