Ain't gunna be no lethargy boy when ah start shootin dem nails inta yer legs and fingahs. You gunna dance like bear with an electric plunger in its ass... And you gunna shit yowself from top to tail...like every one of the others.

RE: life forever | from greenJul 25 2005 - 17:29

nah, people would start to catch on when it came time for you to retire "but you don't look a day older than, say, 35..."

you would have to change scenes so that no one is the wiser.

RE: life forever | from ronJul 25 2005 - 14:18

or maybe you would stay at your crappy job because you have forever to change it... there's no pressure to do anything because time is no longer a factor. it could produce eternal lethargy.

RE: life forever | from .Jul 14 2005 - 06:51

anyway..

RE: life forever | from gooJul 13 2005 - 19:16

I think Pantsy should write a book after reading that post...I rather enjoyed it and was hoping it would go on and on...

RE: life forever | from AhhnoldJul 13 2005 - 19:03

MY NAME IS DETECTIVE JOHN KIMBLE!!!

RE: life forever | from greenJul 13 2005 - 18:17

anyway...

RE: life forever | from supper n' goosieJul 13 2005 - 18:08

Except for Pantsy. I like Pantsy.
And the musicological, extraordinary, most splendiferous scientist of sound. I like him too.

RE: life forever | from supper n' goosieJul 13 2005 - 18:06

I'd spend my existence hunting each and every one of you down and pouring hot treacle over you all before playing all of idaho's records at you and slowly licking you to death.
Alternatively, I might just buy a nailgun.

RE: life forever | from bubbaJul 13 2005 - 15:26

I'd enroll in lots of classes at the local community college.

RE: life forever | from greenJul 13 2005 - 12:31

yeah...but life is short--sometimes people do things that make it shorter. but if we goof it up and say, go to prison, then life might be long.
if someone gave you a dollar a week, you'd probably save it or try to stretch it. but if someone gave you $40,000,000 then you would be more reckless in your spending.
if you didn't have to worry about the clock ticking away, 2, 3, or 40 yrs of an eternity doesn't seem like much--even if you fuck up.

RE: life forever | from forevermanJul 13 2005 - 11:58

I like the thought of incorporating things that I'd do if I never died into my mortal life anyway (apart from killing myself).

It's true that if I thought I'd live forever, I'd be doing many things very differently. I certainly wouldn't be in this crappy job, for a start. I'd probably be bolder, more daring, less uptight, probably achieve much more, maybe even become that famous musician/actor I've always dreamed of becoming.

It's true, in fact, that I don't see why I don't just do that anyway. Why does my mortality mean that I'm more careful and less adventurous (when, in fact, logically speaking, the opposite should be true - given a finite time-line, I should be more hungry and thirsty for things...)

Anyway...

something else:
maybe after one realizes that they won't die, they might start to think that it's for a reason. maybe they'd go to God for the answers (if they believed in God). if they didn't, maybe they would. maybe they'd start to think that they were God.

I had asked someone what they would do in this situation...they told me that they would travel all over the world. whenever people started to suspect anything. she would travel.

I think I'd get bored or at least frustrated with this. you could never just settle-down. and even if you could, the place would change over all that time, and you'd have to leave or you'd want to. forget life-long friendships. sure for a while, maybe you could get used to just coming and going. but after some time you might want just what you did before all the everlasting-ness started to butt in. death isn't so bad. you have a good run, then you go.

interesting to think about, but it makes for a difficult story. let us know how it goes.

RE: life forever | from dkJul 13 2005 - 04:19

You might want to check out The Picture of Dorian Gray. It could save you a lot of time and effort.

RE: life forever | from fuck offJul 13 2005 - 01:06

cunt

RE: life forever | from Pantsy McDoodlesJul 12 2005 - 20:11

i'd make it a point to chew more bubblegum and sniff the packages of Hot Dogs at the supermarket.

i would also live my life always TOTALLY over-accentuating that sipping sound you make when sipping a very hot drink.

i would always roll my socks from the top down to form into a little ring/tubey thing around my ankles.

i would make it a point to talk in a very southern accent (texas/alabama) but would actually PRONOUCE words in a very British manner (i.e., "Ex-TRORD-un-ry" instead if "exTRORdinary", etc.)

i would make myself cry whenever i saw a duck.

whenever it rained i would go out of my way to stand in the rain simply so i could pee my pants and "not have anyone notice."

whenever i encounter a fire-hydrant, i would recite the Gettysburg Address.

i would set up the world's first Anti- Tom Skerrit website, later branching out to Anti- Ernest Borgnine and Anti- Emily Dickenson websites as well.

and most importantly, i would never toot without doodying.

RE: life forever | from ronJul 12 2005 - 20:04

i think it would be horrible, honestly. we're not supposed to live forever (not on earth anyways.) you could get in a car accident and be paralyzed for the rest of eternity. that would suck. there is no escape in death. good luck trying to come up with an ending for this story. but i think there could be some great existential description to a book like this: all the people around you dying, witnessing all of history since your birth unfold, the ability to switch jobs and try everything you've ever wanted to do, all the people and relationships, the music and film you'd see, etc. it's almost too much to write about, really. it poses a serious existential question: death is the last and worst enemy. now that death is impossible, what is there to struggle against? again, if there is no end to your character's life, how will you end the story?????

RE: life forever | from greenJul 12 2005 - 13:48

by "never gonna die" do you mean, nothing can kill you (i.e. people, disease, lack of food/water)? if say, you got hit by a car and lost an eye and some toes, would they grow back?

I think I'd live my life like a normal guy until I hit 35yr and up; your friends, family, spouse, might start to notice that you don't age like everyone else. after I watched all the people I loved and cared about die around me, I might kill myself. if never looking a day past 35yrs meant that I would have to work a 9-5 for the rest of eternity, I would definitely kill myself. who knows?

RE: life forever | from becauseJul 12 2005 - 11:52

of you

RE: life forever | from JJul 12 2005 - 11:39

why?

RE: life forever | from cJul 12 2005 - 11:24

To be honest, if I found out I would never die, and be stuck around age 35 for eternity, I would kill myself. What a horrible thought!

forever | from JJul 12 2005 - 10:03

writing a story, need some help. how would your life be different if you knew that you were never gonna die? That you'd be around the age of 35-ish forever? What would you be doing differently (and also, what's to stop you doing those things anyway..)?
Any interesting responses much appreciated.
p.s the soundtrack of the movie of this book will be all Idaho!
