just incase anyone cares, you can hear the rest of the real cali stuff at:
www.myspace.com/therealcalifornia
there's a song called "Sick Voice demo" that was intentionally an homage to something off of YAY. i just got that album and have been listening the crap out of it.
my other band's site is
www.myspace.com/thepeachbones
take a listen and give me some feedback.

You must be kidding?

RE: something must break released! | from douglas delucaJan 19 2005 - 21:47

brian. hey i am wondering. first of all i am very thankful to be on this comp. but am totally broke. who is making the financial profit? the only reason i ask is because i am too broke to order even one cd. think if i sent at least shipping charges you could send a copy. also, is there going to be any distro with online stores like cdbaby, amazon, cdnow, barnesnoble, etc.????? oh the profit from people getting to hear this love is more than any financial portions, of which i could never ask for more. very endearing sir, good deed done. thank you Brian Carter. this is a total blessing, douglas

RE: something must break released! | from ronJan 17 2005 - 16:40

i really like the boarder states stuff. that first song on the track listing dominates.

RE: something must break released! | from Seth HowardJan 17 2005 - 14:05

micah - It's not just you. That link isn't active yet. Hopefully soon.

RE: something must break released! | from greenJan 17 2005 - 08:39

sounds good. I'll be sure to get a copy when it's out. thanks. keep doing what your doing.

RE: something must break released! | from ronJan 17 2005 - 07:29

unless hell freezed over it will only be locally/regionally distributed... and what i mean by that is at shows or someone could order it from the webpage. we're not on a label or anything, so our funding is pretty much whatever we can afford out of our own pockets. we're pretty much going to cheap route with artwork (i'm going to do it) and semi-mass production.

RE: something must break released! | from greenJan 17 2005 - 07:14

will it be distributed nationally? or will you only be able to get it through you guys? be sure to let us know when it comes out.

RE: something must break released! | from ronJan 16 2005 - 19:42

thanks a lot. we are working on a full-length. we've got just 3 more songs to finish up. we're thinking a late sprind release.

RE: something must break released! | from greenJan 16 2005 - 16:44

the Real California is my favorite so far. "Feel It". sticks to your bones. word. do you guys have a full length?

RE: something must break released! | from ronJan 15 2005 - 14:39

i was just listening to everyone's stuff again and i have to say that it's all really cool and good. i'm proud and honored to be on the same CD as you guys. thanks, brian!

RE: something must break released! | from Rob SJan 15 2005 - 14:31

Castor were indeed great!
Looking forward to the new JOY CIRCUIT disc (EP1). It
s got potential.

RE: something must break released! | from micahJan 15 2005 - 08:24

Seth, the link to your website isn't working for me. Is it just my computer?

RE: something must break released! | from micahJan 15 2005 - 08:03

Slices of Death sounds quite Castor-like, I dig it.

RE: something must break released! | from Rob sJan 15 2005 - 01:33

Hello, 'tis getting very exciting indeed!! Thanks for the kind words folks. Sorry our site isn't up yet. It will be soon. Also our album will be finished and released by the End of Feb. We do have some songs that are more idahoesque. On the flip side we do have a couple that are heavier than those here too.

RE: something must break released! | from Alex NiedtJan 15 2005 - 01:24

Cool, Jeff. Your vocals sound really good in that clip. : )

RE: something must break released! | from jeffJan 14 2005 - 22:28

"live today" was done in one take.....vocals and wurlitzer done at the same time....then about an hour spent messing up the wurly track via pro tools......voila!

RE: something must break released! | from ronJan 14 2005 - 16:03

"feel it" took about 2 hours to record and about an hour to mix. the other one "BS & L" took considerably longer... probably about 20 hours or so, but it was stretched out over a few days.

RE: something must break released! | from Alex NiedtJan 14 2005 - 14:13

I wrote, recorded, and mixed my song at the same time, because it was pretty much the result of just messing around. I think I spent about two days on it, working five hours a day. Usually, I'd spend a lot of time on vocals, but these vocals are just one take.

RE: something must break released! | from Seth HowardJan 14 2005 - 12:36

Andrew - My song "The Devil" was done in three sessions of about 3 hrs each, so it was probably around 8-10 hours total including mixing.

RE: something must break released! | from micahJan 12 2005 - 21:38

favorite clips:

Ten Year Drought
the Mineral Tap
Minor Ache

RE: something must break released! | from adamJan 12 2005 - 08:43

In response to Andrew's question - and I won't speak for the other artists on the comp - the track I gave Brian was on our last record, so... it was part of a larger session, which took way too long thanks to budget constraints.

RE: something must break released! | from douglasJan 12 2005 - 05:57

west's name appeared next to that track listing but realized it is written by seth howard. anyway. all wonder filled. all love. doug

RE: something must break released! | from douglasJan 12 2005 - 05:54

i have to say from the clips. mr. west's song " the devil" is especially strikingly sweet and humble sounding. beautiful all of us sounding together on one album. got to find it. ddeluca

RE: something must break released! | from brianJan 12 2005 - 00:12

Ron, yes that is the tracklisting.

RE: something must break released! | from AndrewJan 11 2005 - 20:45

I've been wondering, how long does it take you guys to do a song? Like how long did you work on one song for this cd?

RE: something must break released! | from JR OlssonJan 09 2005 - 08:55

Everything looks great Brian, I am very excited about this release. I can hook you up with a distributor in Sweden that I know well if you want to. Let me know when you send out that E-mail with information.

I've heard most of the artists on this comp earlier but in most cases not the songs featured. I gotta say after first scroll that I like most of it.

RE: something must break released! | from ronJan 09 2005 - 08:27

hey brian, is the track listing as it is on the webpage???

RE: something must break released! | from AndrewJan 09 2005 - 01:48

Nevermind for now, it says 'home page coming soon'.

RE: something must break released! | from AndrewJan 09 2005 - 01:47

Ah-hah! So Rob S. is behind Minor Ache. www.minorache.com

RE: something must break released! | from brianJan 08 2005 - 22:21

all samples are on the band pages now and the clips can stream or be downloaded.

RE: something must break released! | from Alex NiedtJan 08 2005 - 17:03

Yep, there's an IDAHO clip. And it's got me really wanting the new IDAHO album. There's an awesome percussive loop and keyboard and very good vocals. I'm guessing there's much more to the song than the clip reveals, so I can't wait to hear it.

And Andrew, The Mineral Tap is mplaster and Jason, who played drums on a track or two on "Hope Was". It's cool having Michael's vocals up front like that. Michael, if you're reading this, the recording quality sounds fine to me, although I'm listening on crappy little computer speakers. It sounds no worse than any other clip.

RE: something must break released! | from ronJan 08 2005 - 14:06

thanks for the kudos, alex. you know i think your shit is money and that "martin jeffries" probably has some type of childhood issue. anyways, i couldn't get the sound clips to work either... i'm using a PowerBook G4 (with OS X). does the IDAHO song have a clip, too, or do we have to wait to hear it???

RE: something must break released! | from adamJan 08 2005 - 10:33

Hey Brian,

This is a high res photo from our website you can use:

RE: something must break released! | from marcJan 08 2005 - 02:55

The Minor Ache track is excellent. Do they have a CD available?

Brian, how have you made the clips available? I tried the web site in three different browsers, and none worked. I'm using an Apple computer. I had to download the files from the Audio directory in the end.

RE: something must break released! | from Alex NiedtJan 07 2005 - 23:19

I really love the Gardin track. The first Real California track and the Minor Ache track are great too. Who on this board is in Minor Ache? You guys are awesome. If anyone still hasn't bought Ten Year Drought's CD, buy it.

RE: something must break released! | from Alex NiedtJan 07 2005 - 23:13

Totally.

RE: something must break released! | from Martin JeffriesJan 07 2005 - 22:46

I think the Niedt track was pretty horrible......... the fuck should just get a job at walmart - he sucks.............

RE: something must break released! | from JeanJan 07 2005 - 21:43

Sounds promising.

RE: something must break released! | from David T.Jan 07 2005 - 20:46

The cd sounds very enjoyable. Nice job. Gardin, Alex Niedt, and of course Idaho initially grabbed my interest the first time listening through the song samples.

RE: something must break released! | from AndrewJan 07 2005 - 18:37

Those sample clips really have me excited. I loved Idaho, Gardin, Ten Year Drought, Alex Niedt, and is Mineral Tap Soulwhirlingsomewhere? It sounds like him singing. I love most of the clips actually. I wish there was an option to skip to the sample you want to hear.

RE: something must break released! | from adamJan 07 2005 - 14:33

early favourite clips: alex niedt and johnny west

RE: something must break released! | from brianJan 07 2005 - 14:33

it really is a nice collection of songs, if i say so myself.

RE: something must break released! | from Seth HowardJan 07 2005 - 13:32

Cool!

Unfortunately I can't listen to the clips, but it's probably because my work computers suck.

RE: something must break released! | from Alex NiedtJan 07 2005 - 13:21

Damn, and that's really cheap for that many songs!

RE: something must break released! | from Alex NiedtJan 07 2005 - 13:20

It works for me. The clips sound good.

page ain't twerkin fo me | from dougJan 07 2005 - 10:17
