Green Day is incapable of even aspiring to half of what Milo and The Descendents pulled off 20+ years ago.

Great music ruling the airwaves again? With satellite radio and ipods, "network" style radio is dead.

Labels and probably even individual artists will have their own "frequency".

Can't wait to listen to the Matador station or The Fall station.

RE: FLEDfive | from ronSep 10 2004 - 16:12

the sad thing is, i think, that green day is doing--and have been doing--what they wanted all along: crap rock/punk. albums as great and important as Dark Side Of The Moon, Harvest, and so on, all the way up to records like Yield and In Utero may never come out again. even albums like HOP or Levitate. they come out, sure. but i doubt that there will ever be a day when that kind of great music rules the airwaves again... and that's not necessarily a bad thing... as long as these great artists get their due, ya know?

Same as it ever was, only more so.

There has been junk pop out there since the first time some poor soul first turned on a radio. What's changed, I believe, is how bald-faced the market is in retailing these idiotic beats and over-sung jingles. For example, you don't have to be a member of Ashley Simpson's insider crew to know how fake she is -- she'll gladly show you, right there on TV! Meanwhile, over in hip-hop, everybody talks about being "real." Uh-huh, sure. I got your message when it slipped out from underneath your spectacular jewelry.

It's never been more crass, more off-putting. It sucks the life right out of pop culture. It has infected everything.

All you can do is turn it off, whether you're in Cleveland or Cheesequake, NJ. Fortunately, actual music is out there and easier than ever to find.

Here's something to think about: If a band as capable as the Beatles started out today, would they have a chance of achieving mass popularity? Consider that the Beatles achieved their inital fame via their looks and simplistic yet intriguing pop songs. After a couple of years of that, they began to consciously evolve.

I'm no huge fan of Green Day, but there's a similarity there. You have to wonder how hard they've had to fight their backers to do what they want.

RE: FLEDfive | from ronSep 10 2004 - 14:21

another really bad thing out there now is this ashley simpson. she says "her record" is a "rock record." but the funny thing is, before she even started recording she sat around a table with record execs and they said, "here are your 3 options. we can do hip-hop, the innocent girl next door pop, or go with a more edgy sound." she apparently chose the "edgy" one. then for the photo session for the album she asked, "what's the theme to this album again?" well done american record companies. you really give artists a chance to express themselves.

RE: FLEDfive | from JPWSep 10 2004 - 09:16

She just sucks, period.

RE: FLEDfive | from AndrewSep 09 2004 - 21:22

Avril Lavigne was on 'The Late Show with David Letterman' tonight and she sang really off key and she's written yet another song with the most recycled chord progression in pop music.

RE: FLEDfive | from ronSep 09 2004 - 15:55

i rarely listen to FM radio. not to sound like one of those kids who thinks it's cool to not listen to FM radio, but i seriously rarely listen to it. live near cleveland and you'll know why. but i was kind of bored with the CD's in my car today, so i listened to a couple of "rock" stations out of cleveland. HOLY SHIT! talk about bands who have no business being on the radio. some of this shit was just too bad for me to listen to the DJ tell me who it was. i do know, however, that one of them was the new Creed. i think it's the worst stuff i've ever heard. even worse than Herod... if you remember them from a couple of posts ago. this is why i listen to jim rome on AM radio only.

This is a very strange message board. Seems to be populated by people with much time and little motivation.

RE: FLEDfive | from Alex NiedtSep 08 2004 - 22:54

Devon the Dude. That's his name.

RE: FLEDfive | from Alex NiedtSep 08 2004 - 22:53

Oh my God! Now some gangster dude is trying to sing on Last Call w/ Carson Daly. This shit is sooooo hilarious. I could get up there and sing better than this guy. He's singing microtones during the "harmonies." Oh, I wish everyone on this message board could be watching this. Man, if only I was a blinged-out black dude with no talent...

Jeff, it's time to break out the ice. Rolex, baby. Rolex.

RE: FLEDfive | from Alex NiedtSep 08 2004 - 22:45

What a great band name. I just saw a band named Radio 5 on Conan. Or maybe Radio 4? Either way, the song made absolutely no musical impression at all; it was truly amazing. When it was over, I could not, for the life of me, recall what I had just heard.

But I've decided to start rooting for these bands instead of getting agitated at them. The more bands like this, the better IDAHO's chances are for sifting over all of them toward "real financial success" or whatever. Same with all the other talented people out there. Go FLEDfive!!!!! Keep sucking! Write the worst songs you possibly can...

I just wanted to let everyone know about my favorite new bodily excrement--POO LOGS. They smell kind of like a foul, rotting garbage heap or Nickelback and you can smell their putrid stench by going to mybrownfeces.com and doing a search for POO LOGS. I smelled them recently with a sulfer pit and 24 defecated eggs and they blew everyone away!

RE: FLEDfive | from ckSep 08 2004 - 17:31

I just wanted to mention my favorite new band, too. They're called Clone. They sound like a cross between Seven Mary Three, 311, Three Doors Down, Blink 182, Matchbox 20,and Sevendust. I saw them with Phlegm and Nosehair and they made everyone vomit.
