RE: trip to LA | from Pantsy McDoodlesSep 04 2004 - 17:04

i hear they pee in the streets in L.A.... right there in front of you. sometimes poo, too! (i.e., logs)

RE: trip to LA | from ronSep 04 2004 - 16:33

nice. i think i want to go behind that little diner from mulholland drive and look for that weird homeless guy... either that or check out laurel canyon. hopefully it's still the drug hotspot... i mean... nothing...

No! I wanna know are you a GIRLIE MAN? Otherwise dere be no welcome in California sucker.

RE: trip to LA | from meSep 03 2004 - 19:22

Yeah, LA is freaky...it's just bizarre to have the mountains within eyesight of the city...plus things are so spread out which is also weird. It's no NYC that's for sure. I just can't figure out how everyone knows where the hotspots are...things all look ambiguous and "neighborhoody"...a very strange place indeed

chris, thanks. it's looking like i'll be there for a few days instead of just one. i may just man-up and stay at some hotel near LAX. the Hacienda i think. i saw Collateral as well and thought, "damn. i need to be there." thanks for the info.

I was in L.A. for the first time this summer, helping out my friends in a band called the Caribbean. They played several dates up and down the West coast.

I was really struck by how unfinished L.A. is. It feels like a divorced guy's apartment -- cluttered, yet empty.

But it was also strangely beautiful, especially at night. Michael Mann's new movie, Collateral, captured some of that. And it's not a stretch to say there is a canyons-of-light vibe to much of Idaho's music.

Good luck on your trip. Sorry I don't know anyone there well enough to recommend for your housing request.

Whatever you do, explore the territory just north of the city.
It is stunning.

would anyone on the board from LA be interested in housing a strange guy from ohio for a night? i'm moving a friend to new mexico but flying to LA for excessive tourism and wouldn't mind saving some $$$ on room & board. i can bring exotic corn and beans from ohio's wonderful farmland... maybe a piece of sod form kozelek's home town of massillon in exchange for safe housing and some help navigating hollywood. and just to keep it relevant, my new favorite Idaho song is "this cloud we're on."
