it wont be that much..im not into spending all that time packing stuff myself and driving 1 hour away to UPS to mail these big items...so BOX and SHIP is the only way i do it...they charge alot unfortunately ....the 70$ to have it packed up properly.....(not just a big box but foam and padding or what not) may be a little exaggerated.....it'll be less than 110 total but not much less.......hopefully i didnt confuse you more

Hey Jeff, is it an extra 110.00 for shipping and handling? the way the auction is worded is kind of weird.

Hi Keith. I've used a Presonus MP20 for everything I've ever done, and it is definitely the best for the money, although I have had it worked on a couple of times over the last two years to make it even quieter.
RE: 'thee' idaho kick drum on ebay | from KeithFeb 14 2004 - 15:04
I just got a pair of Studio Project C4's that work really nice as overheads, not bad on the wallet either. And my trusty pair of AT 4047's that work really well for quiet instruments, great room mics too.
What preamp are you running the coles through? I've been on quite a search for a quiet preamp, came upon FMR's RNP which is really quiet, and very portable (2 inputs, and it's like the size of a peice of bread). I'm getting a presonus mp-20 soon, which is, so far as I've heard, the quietest preamp for that kind of money.
However you record the piano it sounds beautiful, Alive Again in particular.

oh yes sir...i use the standard old AKG112 on the kick..its not the best but its all i got...i got a cheap gretsch kit ...the "catalina" line. the coles are reallu great for guitars, piano, and even voice...they need a really clean pre amp though cause they have this weird impedence issue
RE: 'thee' idaho kick drum on ebay | from Alex NiedtFeb 13 2004 - 11:49
I have a pair of Neumann TLM 170-R's and they sound great on a lot of stuff, but especially guitars.

No close kick mic?
The more I hear and hear about the Coles 4038, the more I want one (or a pair). They sound amazing on acoustic guitar.
Did you get one of those new Gretch bebop kits Jeff?
RE: 'thee' idaho kick drum on ebay | from jeffFeb 12 2004 - 20:13
neuman U87's as overheads, sm57 snare, sennheiser 421's on toms, a neuman TLM 170 (i think its 170) and a coles ribbon mic set up in an MS pattern a few feet from the kick to get the room if that makes sense..
thanks andrew, ill change that

Hey Jeff, if you don't separate the word "drum" from "22" in your auction, people who are searching for the phrase "kick drum" will not find it. This might be why no one has bid yet. Just thought you might like to know.
RE: 'thee' idaho kick drum on ebay | from KeithFeb 11 2004 - 18:18
Older Ludwigs and Slingerlands (early to mid 60's) always do the trick. Soft felt beater, not too muffled. Yum. I have a 14x22 Ludwig that's incredibly warm, no new kit gets close.
What mics do you use on the kit Jeff?
RE: 'thee' idaho kick drum on ebay | from jeffFeb 11 2004 - 14:52
i usually rent snares from ross. ive been using this old ludwig metal snare on a lot of the new stuff though. im using this cheapo japanese gretsch kit now....love the old kick but wanted something a little more subtle on this record.
RE: 'thee' idaho kick drum on ebay | from Alex NiedtFeb 11 2004 - 11:09
Man, I always thought it was the thickest-sounding kick I've ever heard. Difficult to match... When's that snare going up, Jeff?
RE: 'thee' idaho kick drum on ebay | from KeithFeb 11 2004 - 09:28
SO, that's the culprit. Sad to hear it will never see another Idaho recording.

Dude: do we need to send you an aid package? This sux.

I understand selling some guitars and looking for a different sound, but come on man! That kick drum sounds amazing. The new one better be out of this world.

im selling the kick drum that was used exclusively on "hearts of palm" and "levitate". custom made...very deep and big sounding. records beautifully.
