RE: idiot | from cJan 12 2004 - 05:15

that's fuckin hilarious doggie

RE: idiot | from ronJan 11 2004 - 18:59

if you want more details, scroll up and read the first post. that pretty much sums it up. kozelek was really nice. he seemed pretty normal. i thought it was odd that he liked boxing. it seems too violent for his "persona." my buddy vern actually played in a band with me for a while. he moved away a little over a year ago. to a remote and very amish part of ohio... near the PA border. he's doing well for himself. but we both remember that fateful night fondly.

RE: idiot | from joakimJan 11 2004 - 10:19

ron; i want more details. on second thougts, what ever happend to your buddy vernon?

RE: idiot | from joakimJan 11 2004 - 10:14

i think every good team needs a ron.

RE: idiot | from ronJan 11 2004 - 09:24

it's like two people starving and there's only enough food for one. someone has to sacrifice. that's the old saying "take one for the team." you sacrifice yourself for the "greater good." and besides, i don't think kozelek is gay. way to ruin my good joke. thanks.

RE: idiot | from AndrewJan 10 2004 - 15:24

Wow, that was hilarious. : (

RE: idiot | from doggieJan 10 2004 - 15:14

well, i'm glad you & mark practiced safe sex when you & him went at it with each other, though i dunno if i' that 'taking one for the team'.

RE: idiot | from ronJan 10 2004 - 14:50

HA! i guess i took one for the team, huh?

RE: idiot | from joakimJan 10 2004 - 08:25

ron; a lovely gesture and a great story, if it was you last piece of rubber and you spent the night twiddling your thumbs.

RE: idiot | from ronJan 08 2004 - 15:15

things i never want my idols to ask me...

RE: idiot | from jeremyJan 08 2004 - 06:45

things i didn't need to know.....

RE: idiot | from ronJan 08 2004 - 05:15

when he asked me for a condom he was.

RE: idiot | from joakimJan 08 2004 - 04:58

was kozelek wearing the "biggest smile from tokyo"?

RE: idiot | from DeanJan 05 2004 - 06:14

I got to hang out a couple of times with my hero's Radar bros a few years back. Jim was chilled, Senon was on a crazy girl hunt and Steve super approachable and enthusiastic about EVERYTHING. A couple of top nights and lots of great touring stories told and Guiness quaffed.
Approaching Jeff would have been too freaky.

RE: idiot | from ronJan 05 2004 - 05:54

i was actually standing with the drummer anthony when just some small crowds were coming in. some girl--kind of heavier, goth face paint, black leather, whatnot--came up to me (of all people) and asked me if i was "here to see the red house painters?" she clearly didn't know enough to know that i was talking to the drummer, so i said, "well, i'm actually the drummer for that band." the girl totally lost it! she was all, "OH MY GOD! CAN I TOUCH YOU??!!!" and i was all, "F no!" then i told her that anthony was actually anthony. i can't comment for sure about what happened there... if anything.

RE: idiot | from RyanJan 02 2004 - 17:23

I always wondered if sensitive, slo-core type bands got any groupies. Now I know.

RE: idiot | from lost in translationDec 31 2003 - 13:54

right. i'm glad he didn't.

RE: idiot | from ronDec 31 2003 - 06:15

firstly, confucious was chinese. secondly, no, he didn't play "japanse to english" in the set. that would have been a little too creepy... right?

RE: idiot | from Kongfuzi (Confucius) Dec 30 2003 - 23:41

Confucius say one night stand lead to itchy red bumps

RE: idiot | from lost in translationDec 30 2003 - 23:36

did he play 'japanese to english' on that tour stop?

RE: idiot | from HirohitoDec 30 2003 - 23:25

Good thing you had a good-looking Japanese girl for leverage. That man would never have been so nice to you otherwise

RE: idiot | from ronDec 30 2003 - 21:47

you've got to be kidding! that's brilliant! absolutely brilliant! i still, in some ways, haven't recovered from that night. it's just not everyday that you get to meet someone you sort of idolize and admire. most people admire these ultra-famous, unapproachable types... or dead people... and they never get the chance to meet them and be allowed into their lives for a few hours. i will definitely be there in ann arbor (or ohio) when they come back around. and i promise i won't have a hand in making a tired mark kozelek.

RE: idiot | from jeremyDec 30 2003 - 19:29

aha..ok, ron, now everything becomes clear, like some real-life rashomon/gate of hell/shaggy dog story. i was at the toronto gig 'the night after the night before', and the first thing koz says on stage is "man, i just woke up...i (yawn) met this really nice girl last night and didn't (yawn) get much sleep. The LAST thing i want to do right now is play music." Now call me bourgeois but that's not really what a paying customer/fan wants to hear right off the bat, especially after shelling out and looking forward to a concert for several weeks. So my request to you, Ron, is that when Koz comes around on this next tour in January, and esp. if an Ann Arbour gig is the night before Toronto, please don't bring Midori to it, ok?!

RE: idiot | from ronDec 30 2003 - 17:02

of course it was BEFORE i heard it. i saw the name popping up on our "best of '03" list and i was like, "who the F is Sun Kil Moon." then i read an article in the magazine called Harp. and then when i read that some of the songs were about boxers and boxing i remembered the time i met mark kozelek.
it was during the summer leg of the Old Ramon tour, what, back in 2001??? it was 15 june.
i live in ohio. RHP didn't have an ohio date, so a i drove (with a friend) to ann arbor, MI to see a show. at the time i was dating a japanse girl, had been for a couple of years. so i decided to make a weekend of it. we would stay at her place.
we didn't have tickets so we went to the blind pig like 5 hours before the show get tix. it was me, my girlfriend, her best friend (who is also japanese), and my buddy vernon. it was raining pretty hard and we were standing outside the club.
then, from inside the place, there's a knock on the glass with someone motioning us in. (the doors were locked just moments before).
so we walk in and BOOM! there's the entire band! no one else was really a RHP fan, so they had no clue who they were. i was crapping myself, but i kept it together. so we hung out and chatted there for a while. the drummer is a very funny guy. great sense of humour. we were able to talk about massillon, ohio and some other ohio landmarks.
then kozelek asks, "so, do you have tickets for the show?" he's clearly attracted to my girlfriend's friend. we answer, "no." and he procedes to put us on the guest list! totally cool and nice of him. that would have made my year in itself.
we leave for a short time (got to hear the soundcheck.) then we come back and pass through the line of 500 people and walk right through the door.
apparently during the opening band's set kozelek found midori (the friend of my girlfriend) and they struck up conversation.
to make this really long story shorter, he ends up coming back to stay with us/her for the night. i got a chance to hang out with him, smoke some cigs, eat authentic japanse food, and talk about stuff like boxing and making movies.
pretty classic. he was a very nice guy. very polite and appreciative of our hospitality. i think he just wanted to be around someone who wasn't trying to take advantage of him in some way. we all talked until about 6:00am. he left 4 hours later for toronto.

RE: idiot | from cagainDec 30 2003 - 05:15

kozelek?? i thought sun kil moon was a new Idaho album.

RE: idiot | from richardDec 29 2003 - 21:13

is that the story of the gerbil?

RE: idiot | from meDec 29 2003 - 20:29

please tell me you "just realized" it's kozelek's new band before you heard it. i would hate to think that you were unaware that it was kozelek singing as you were listening.

RE: idiot | from misterDec 29 2003 - 16:03

do tell

i'm dumb | from ronDec 29 2003 - 15:11

i just realized that Sun Kil Moon is kozelek's new band. it's funny, if anyone is interested in hearing it, i've got a great story about meeting him after a show. it's kind of a long story, but it's all true! and i think the song "Social Studies" is my new favorite.
