RE: mogwai | from scoobidooJun 26 2003 - 02:04

The new Paik album is available on claire records, but i don't have listened to it. What I've listened made me think about Explosion in the sky, also a cool band. Constellation team is cool, but in my opinion they don't seem to progress or explore new sounds. The tension on the new albums is always there, but i feel more and more disapointed because there is nothing really new. I saw Godspeed with handged up on stage six weeks ago. Still impressive. The strange videos you can see behind the band during the gig are brilliants. Idaho does the same thing and it gives to the performance a deeper aspect.

Ah, well, can't please everyone. Still, Alex, there's always "From te edge of the deep green sea", which is a beautiful song.

RE: mogwai | from AlexJun 25 2003 - 20:05

I just got the Silver Mt. Zion album with the really long title about Wanda, the dog. After readed all the great reviews, I'm pretty disappointed with it. It's very repetitive and I don't find it as beautiful as everyone makes it out to be. The fifth song is very beautiful, though, but it's still repetitive and drones on for too long.

RE: mogwai | from BlueAstronautJun 25 2003 - 19:45

The shuttle ALWAYS sounds beautiful. It's the sound of humans hitching a lift off this sorry rock. Good luck to em all. Sonic, psychic, chemical or physic.

RE: mogwai | from MaxJun 25 2003 - 19:39

"Meanwhile..."...I saw them once here in London. Actually they didn't particularly impress me. Their loud moments sounded like a shuttle taking off (in a bad way). The soft ones like Lydia Lunch reciting over a weaker version of early Mogwai....And that digital keyboard...I remember it was a little annoying.
Anyway, this song doesn't sound so bad:

...or my goddamn brain, it's the worst of all, 'specially after a drink.

RE: mogwai | from BlueAstronautJun 25 2003 - 17:10

"Hear", even. Christ, this cheap bottle of vodka's playing havoc with my synapses. Can't connect finger to brain. Help me for god's sake. Don't leave me at the mercy of my liver....

RE: mogwai | from BlueAstronautJun 25 2003 - 17:08

Scoobidoo, where'd you here Meanwhile...? Peel had them in session in February; they were grander than a mastiff's bollocks. Haven't heard, or heard of, Paik. Any links on the web? You heard Silver Mt Zion?

RE: mogwai | from scoobidooJun 25 2003 - 07:01

Meanwhile... is really great. I think the new Kinski album is amazing too, maybe better than the mogwai. Anyone knows something about a band called Paik? I've bought a split ep included Kinski and this band. The Paik's song is simply monumental! If somebody got an album of them, please tell me what you think about it.

RE: mogwai | from AlexJun 24 2003 - 08:50

As long as its slow or sad or beautiful or whatever I like it. Go Mogwai!

RE: mogwai | from MaxJun 24 2003 - 08:42

The more I listen "Happy songs..." the more I like it. Tunes are incredibly...otherworldly, their simplicity seems to contain the mystery of infancy, the mystery of life. Is very difficult to describe and judge this music in terms of "style", "evolution", "novelty"...It seems to transcend them, and, best of all, without sounding pretentious or too ambitious.

RE: mogwai | from BlueAstronautJun 22 2003 - 17:27

Scoobidoo, you're right about the ...Communist Russia stuff. I got hold of "My Elixir" bout a month ago. It's damn fine, but they've got a little way to go yet.

RE: mogwai | from ajJun 21 2003 - 14:51

saw mogwai live in vegas a few nights back--amazing. the new stuff does sound great live. they pull off the dynamics quite well and the rock out parts are the biggest wall of sound that i have ever physically experienced!! i got the impression that they don't really like playing live too much. seemed very shy, but wow...

RE: mogwai | from JR OlssonJun 20 2003 - 16:26

thanks for the tip scoobi. looking forward to check them out.

golden porsche is now the finest song on the record i think. and yes, i like godspeed too. the entire fourth track on skinny fists is just amazing.

RE: mogwai | from daJun 20 2003 - 06:40

godspeed's great.
liked rock action better though;
but the new album will sound amazing live i guess

RE: mogwai | from MaxJun 19 2003 - 14:38

The new album is a godsend, but I consider Rock Action one of the best album I've ever heard. In therms of sound it's slightly superior, in my opinion. Try to listen both in rapid succession. David Friedmann is a genious.

RE: mogwai | from scoobidooJun 19 2003 - 06:31

If you like Mogway, there is a band in Oxford (england) called Meanwhile back in Communist Russia. Yes it's true! Their second album is very very good. The music is quiet organic and have a lot of similarities with the creators of the "Stanley Kubrick EP".

RE: mogwai | from mustafaJun 19 2003 - 05:49

I'd have to say that I'm quite pleased with the latest release...I've been listening the shit out of it since I picked it up on Monday. So far, the favorite thus far is 'I Know You Are but What am I?'. I appreciate the cohesiveness of the entire album, which has not been a strong point for Mogwai in the past. It's like listening to the soundtrack of your life...
Godspeed...yes...best if listened to with headphones...in my opinion.

RE: mogwai | from BlueAstronautJun 18 2003 - 18:08

It's a damn fine record. Don't agree about Rock Action, though. That was good too, just not as coherent. Still, the new one is sublime. Anybody here like Godspeed?

RE: mogwai | from JR OlssonJun 18 2003 - 12:41

i still hold the 'ep' as their best. the new one really really is good though. 'rats of the captal' is a fine piece of tune.

RE: mogwai | from Dan TJun 18 2003 - 11:54

... I was expecting the worst after 'rock action'. The new CD is definitely a return to form, and their best for years.

new record | from ajJun 18 2003 - 10:48

ok, i know there must be mogwai fans that frequent this idaho site. wow, their new record is amazing and i actually get to see them tomorrow night in vegas of all places! they rarely come to the states... any other reactions to the new record?
