RE: Lou Barlow | from JR OlssonMar 27 2003 - 00:36

i would'nt say overproduced. but the record has another sound to it. a new sound for pedro the lion. i heard his new stuff was gonna be yet different. bazan's new guitar friend from scientific (www.scientificmusic.com) obviously plays some rock n roll solos. but what do i know? i live in sweden. no good bands ever come here.

Thanks JR, my friends said to me that Control was over-produced. But I think i'll bought it finally. By the way, I love the new Damien Jurado, very eclectic.

RE: Lou Barlow | from JR OlssonMar 26 2003 - 03:23

no wonder some of damien jurados stuff sounds like pedros when damien recorded 'i break chairs' in bazan's (mr. pedro) studio and with bazan as the producer. the powerchord is nice. i think he is very cleaver with those little tones in the chords. the vocal melodies and his voice is pedro the lion's strength in my opinion. 'it's hard to find a friend' is mostly acoustic. my fav record is 'winners never quit' where he mixes poppy tunes with depressed ones. the latest album 'control' is really good too though. rougher songs and rawer mix.

Pedro, is ok, But dominated by that power chord. I thin Lou's music is so much more cerebral. With that little indian twang to the guitar.

I just bought It's hard To Find a friend. Really nice album, and it sounds like Damien Jurodo too. How is Control and the rest of the discography?

RE: Lou Barlow | from Rob sMar 24 2003 - 20:37

I love Pedro. Some of it sounds a bit like IDAHO. The last 2 albums are my faves. But most people like the eps and the first album.

The new Folk Implosion CD is pretty much a combination of Sebadoh and Folk Implosion. If you are a fan of either or both I think you will dig it.

RE: Lou Barlow | from JR OlssonMar 20 2003 - 09:48

i can not agree with you on that one. but it's all about taste. i don't even like mr. barlows music that much for instance.

RE: Lou Barlow | from pyotrMar 20 2003 - 06:48

I've got to be honest that I haven't heard Sebadoh in PTL, but I'm heavily biased towards Sebadoh anyways. Besides, some of my favorite Sebadoh stuff is the crazy early Eric songs. PTL is ok, but no match for barlow as a songwriter, imo.

RE: Lou Barlow | from JR OlssonMar 20 2003 - 05:04

Pedro the lion is one of my absolute fav bands. 'Never leave a job half done' is a classic.

I just heard some Pedro the Lion. Reminded me a lot of Sebadoh and Folk Implosion. I like all three bands (Sebadoh the best), and wondered if anybody else heard those two bands in Pedro (or the other way around).

Hey Jeff, just curious if you ever have ever met Lou Barlow. I know he is living in the LA area, and you are both terrific song writers.
I saw Folk Implosion play last night in Cambridge, Ma. It had the same feel to me as an Idaho show. Minus the piano of course.
